For my final project, I will explore the role of data visualization in the humanitarian aid sector. Humanitarian organizations collect large amounts of information on needs, populations, resources, and outcomes. However, without clear visualization, critical insights can be lost or misunderstood. My project will analyze how effective data visualizations help humanitarian actors make faster decisions, communicate needs more transparently, and improve the delivery of aid. I will review real-world examples where visual tools, such as crisis maps and dashboards, enhanced emergency responses or long-term programming. In addition, I will create sample visualizations using publicly available datasets from humanitarian sources. These examples will demonstrate best practices for presenting complex information clearly while respecting ethical standards for representing vulnerable populations. I plan to use free tools such as Tableau Public or Flourish to develop simple, meaningful graphics. Through this project, I aim to show that good visualizations are not just helpful—they are essential for improving coordination, accountability, and impact in humanitarian work. Clear data storytelling can ultimately lead to more effective support for communities affected by crisis.
